Parquet Floor 2 - finishing it up!
This morning we put what formal furniture we have in the formal living room....and OH THE THRILL! We are loving how it is looking so far! FC said, "Wow! It looks like a room Mom!" Wallpaper should come next week (and putting a face on the clock hehe!) This room will also have a fire place.
So now we will back track and show you how we got to that point! Above is a photo of the unfinished floor. I'm not the most precise creature so this is a method that we found really works. It is forgiving (Yay!) So at this point the floor was glued into the house and had been held down with a very heavy book (compliments of Great Uncle Dave.) Everything was set! Now for some fun...
Yep! This is me squishing spackle into the cracks! Yep! Just plain wall spackle!
Next, with a slightly damp rag I cleaned off the gunk stuck to the tops. I really wanted to the pattern to pop. Make sure your rag isn't too wet or it will dissolve the spackle!
THEN LET IT DRY!
After what feels like an eternity, (we opted to wait an entire day) I thinned down some simple caramel colored craft paint with a little bit of water.
And wiped off the extra.
Enter my other good friend, Mod Podge. Upon my sister's input we went with the glossy version when we worked on the stairs (photos in a future post.) Wow, great choice! We decided to use the same for the floors.
Note! It goes on white...but don't freak out! It dries clear!
Voila! The floors are pleasantly shiny but don't look so shiny that you're afraid to walk on them with stilettos for fear you fall on your bottom! (...if I owned stilettos and was tiny enough to live in this fabulous mansion.) At this point we also put the stairs in. I have yet to glue them. I love being able to easily access the entry way without the stairs getting in the way. To be honest, I'm not crazy about sticking my hand in the doorway and windows to work :D
And this...this...this....ah...this is where I would be for hours each day. I would play the beautiful instrument my sister gifted me for a birthday years ago that finally has the perfect spot in a formal room! Before long there will be fancy wallpaper and curtains as a backdrop!
Happy Wednesday!
