Fairfield Dollhouse Interior (so far!)

The Fairfield Kit is great! It only needed a few tweaks to make it all that we dreamed it would be.

You'll notice the conservatory taking shape! The tiles are actually extra pieces of cardboard from a toy building set! Talk about good luck!

We changed the floor plan sightly and the kitchen is the bottom right room with flower wallpaper. To the left is the library. Above that is the nursery with butterfly wallpaper. Across from that is the master. The third floor experienced the most changes. From this view the one large open space has been split into two rooms. I built up a wall in the right room with a door leading to the bathroom.

On the other side of the house you'll notice many changes! The front door remained the same but I opted not to use the wall pieces for the stairs. As previously mentioned, we did change the direction on the stairs. The custom railing is made out of....drum roll...bamboo skewers!!! I'll repeat the process for the front porch and balcony 😍

You will see the doorway at the top of the stairs that leads out to the balcony. The original design calls for this to be a window looking out to a roof. There also was an additional wall piece designated to make a small room to the right of the stairs. We wanted optimum play space so we left this area open. It will have arm chairs and toys for the kids. Can't you picture the kids playing there in the afternoon while the baby naps and mom reads or knits!?

The third floor, as I said before, experienced the most changes. Originally it was all open except for the tiny square tower room. I opened the wall and created extenders to make one open area. This will be the location of the bathtub. It was tricky work but we created a wall to the left to separate the attic bedrooms from the bathroom. The seam will be less noticable once the shingles go up 😇. I painted the floor dark gray, as well as the four hearths and hearth extensions. This provided a wonderful "grout" backdrop for the tile. The "tile" is all the same thick watercolor paper. The bathroom pattern has funky fun gold square accents because WHY NOT!? 🤸🏼‍♀️

I cannot take credit for this brilliant idea. A friend and her children were over and her kindergartner said,"that would be a cool room!" He was pointing to the turret! I was so surprised but immediately grabbed my tools and removed one piece of roof. With a little cardboard, glue, scrapbook paper and little piece of furry fabric this hideaway is starting to take shape! Ultimately the shingles will finish the edges and there will either be a hammock or a swing in this room. "I call attic for quiet time!"

Stay tuned for more later!
